What is Backyard Hope?

Backyard Hope is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals, students, and families facing everyday hardships across Oneida and Herkimer Counties. Founded by Danielle Padula, Backyard Hope was created to meet urgent needs with dignity, compassion, and action—focusing on practical support that makes a real difference in people’s daily lives. From access to basic necessities to youth-focused initiatives, Backyard Hope believes that strong communities are built by showing up for one another.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Backyard Hope is governed by an active Board of Directors made up of community leaders who help guide the organization’s mission, programs, and long-term sustainability. Together, the board and staff work to ensure transparency, accountability, and meaningful impact in every program offered.

Meet Our Founder: Danielle Padula
Born and raised in Utica, New York, Danielle Padula has deep roots in the community she proudly serves. She currently lives in Utica with her husband and their three children, raising her family in the same city that shaped her values of service, compassion, and community pride.
Danielle founded Backyard Hope after recognizing a growing need for accessible, dignity-centered support for local families and students. Driven by both personal experience and years of community involvement, she is passionate about meeting people where they are and ensuring that no one in her hometown feels unseen or unsupported. Her vision for Backyard Hope is simple but powerful: help close gaps, uplift neighbors, and strengthen the community—one act of kindness at a time.
